                FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS PAINTLESS DENT REPAIR?  Paintless dent repair or PDR is the process of repairing minor and non collision type dents by slowly pushing and massaging the metal back to its original shape or contour.   While there are several ways to accomplish this, the most common is by using various steel pdr tools to push from behind the metal.  Because of this technique, there is no need for repainting, bondo, or panel replacement.

WHAT DOES PAINTLESS DENT REPAIR COST?  This is perhaps the most asked question.  The answer is not as simple as you might think.  There is no flat or hourly rate.  Because of things like varying factors, trim removal, vehicle type, metal type, etc., it's almost impossible to tell you a cost without seeing the damage in person.  If you compare it to contacting a body shop on the phone,  it's a little like asking them the same question.   You can try to describe damage to your vehicle but until it's seen in person, there isn't a way to tell you a quote.    Our system works the same way.

Our prices start at $165 + tax for a small door ding.

The good news is that we will tell you the total cost before any work is done.  No surprises!

If you call us or text photos or video, we can generally give you a ballpark quote or range but it is more preferable for our techs to see the vehicle in person to make a full assessment and quote.   Call, text photos, or video to (828)217-2348

SHOULD I MAKE AN INSURANCE CLAIM?  It all depends on the situation and the damage you have.  Things like hail damage, deer hits, tree limb damage, acorn damage, and light collisions are all good situations to make immediate  insurance claims if you so choose.  It's probably best discussed with your insurance agent.  We're happy to talk to you on the phone or in person about the damage you have, provide you with an estimate, and advise whether it's a good scenario to consider a claim.

WILL MY INSURANCE RATE GO UP IF I MAKE A CLAIM?  If you have damage due to anything considered an "Act of God" (i.e. hail, acorns, tree limbs, deer hits, basically anything nature oriented) your rates will not go up.  If it is related to damage caused by yourself or someone else (i.e. dings, fender benders, light collision) it may increase.  We always suggest discussing it with your insurance agent first.

WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY VEHICLE IS DAMAGED FROM HAIL?   It's very simple by following these steps.  Any questions, please call us at (828)217-2348 or your insurance agent.

  1. Call your local agent or insurance toll free number and tell them about the damage.  Let them know you'd like to make a claim and be sure to get the claim number.
  2. You can tell your agent or adjuster that you have selected Dent Aid as your repair facility.  Remember that it is your right to take your vehicle to the repair shop you prefer.  It is illegal for insurance adjusters to tell you where or limit where you can take your vehicle.  This is referred to as "steering" and is against the law in most states.
  3. Once you have approval from the adjuster or if you need an estimate, schedule to drop off your vehicle for repair with us at Dent Aid.
  4. Remember that, in most cases, you are only responsible for your deductible.

DOES A DENT "POP OUT"?  No.  That is a myth.  It requires multiple pushes from behind or glue pulling with professional tools and techniques.

DO YOU USE DRY ICE, SUCTION, OR MAGNETS TO FIX DENTS?  Another myth unfortunately.  Contrary to what some may see on YouTube we only use professional tools and techniques.  In short, our process is the way a dent is professionally repaired.   If you have any questions about our services or our process to fix your dent, please feel free to call us at anytime and we will gladly explain the process.

IS PAINTLESS DENT REPAIR BETTER THAN A BODY SHOP?

Absolutely!  In several different ways.

  1. First, we never paint or use body filler to repair damage on your vehicle.  We use the latest tools and techniques to push from behind the and repairing it to a like new condition in most cases. This means you never have to worry about having your original paint stripped, grinding, sanding, chemicals, aftermarket cheap parts, or paint that doesn't match.
  2. Second, we can repair your damage quickly.  Typically about an hour for small dents and dings. Larger dents may require 2-5 hours depending on the severity. Hail damage may require 1-10 days depending on severity and insurance approval. This provides you with a quicker turnaround service. A body shop may have your vehicle for two weeks minimum.
  3. Third, we are mobile.  For a fee we can come to your house or workplace in some cases to repair whatever small damage you have.  Your time is paramount and the convenience of being mobile is a key feature of our services.  For larger or complex damage, we are conveniently located of Hwy 321N in Hudson for you to drop off your vehicle for repair.  We are currently "by appointment only" so please make sure to call first.
  4. Fourth, we never report any vehicle history (i.e. CarFax) regarding the repairs on your vehicle.  Many body shops will report this as well as insurance companies if you make a claim.  This will help maintain value in your vehicle by not reporting that information.
  5. Fifth, paintless dent repair can be cheaper than a body shop.  A small dent or ding can cost as little as $179.  Compare that to a repaint and the cost could be as little as $700.  You are saving money!
  6. Paintless dent repair is a "green" repair process.  Our processes do not require paint, chemicals, or panel replacement.   This keeps our environment cleaner and keeps your damaged panels out of landfills.
  7. Finally, because you're not having your vehicle repainted, you don't lose value in your vehicle. If you ever decide to trade your vehicle, auto dealers will check the depth of paint and the CarFax report to look for evidence of repainting or prior body damage. You can lose $800 or more in value per panel by having your car, truck or SUV repainted.

To sum it all up, avoid body shops for light and small damage and call us at Dent Aid (828)217-2348
