FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What Is Paintless Dent Repair (PDR)?

Paintless Dent Repair (PDR) is the process of repairing minor, non-collision dents by carefully pushing and massaging the metal back to its original shape and contour.

While there are several ways to accomplish this, the most common technique involves using specialized steel PDR tools to push from behind the panel. Because of this precise process, there’s no need for repainting, bondo, or panel replacement.

What Does Paintless Dent Repair Cost?

This is one of our most common questions - and the answer depends on a few factors.

There’s no flat or hourly rate, since pricing can vary based on things like vehicle type, metal type, trim removal, and the size or depth of the damage. Like calling a body shop, it’s difficult to provide an exact quote without seeing the damage in person.

Our prices start at $165 + tax for a small door ding.

The good news: we’ll always tell you the total cost before any work begins - no surprises.

You can call or text us photos or videos of your damage for a ballpark quote, but we recommend having one of our technicians inspect your vehicle in person for an accurate estimate.

Should I Make an Insurance Claim?

It depends on the situation and the type of damage.

Hail damage, deer hits, falling tree limbs, acorn damage, and other “Act of God” events are often good reasons to file a claim.

We’re happy to discuss your situation over the phone or in person, provide an estimate, and help you decide whether filing an insurance claim makes sense.

Will My Insurance Rates Go Up If I File a Claim?

If your damage was caused by an “Act of God” (hail, acorns, tree limbs, deer hits, etc.), your rates will not go up.

However, if the damage was caused by you or another driver (such as a fender bender or door ding), your rates may increase.
We always recommend discussing the details with your insurance agent first.

What Should I Do If My Vehicle Is Damaged by Hail?

The process is simple. Here’s what to do:

  1. Call your local agent or insurance company and report the hail damage. Request to file a claim and be sure to get a claim number.
  2. Let your agent or adjuster know you’ve selected Dent Aid as your repair facility.
  3. It’s your legal right to choose where your vehicle is repaired. Insurance companies cannot “steer” you toward a specific shop - that’s illegal in most states.
  4. Once your claim is approved (or if you need an estimate), schedule your repair with us at Dent Aid.
  5. Remember: in most cases, you’re only responsible for your deductible.

For any questions, call us anytime at (828) 217-2348 or contact your insurance agent for assistance.

Does a Dent Just “Pop Out”?

No - that’s a myth!
PDR requires
multiple precision pushes from behind the panel or specialized glue-pulling techniques using professional-grade tools.

Do You Use Dry Ice, Suction, or Magnets to Fix Dents?

Another common myth. Contrary to what you might see online, we do not use dry ice, suction cups, or magnets.
We use only
industry-approved tools and professional techniques to ensure a safe, high-quality, long-lasting repair.

If you’d like to understand our process in more detail, we’d be happy to explain — just give us a call.

Is Paintless Dent Repair Better Than a Body Shop?

Absolutely - in many ways.

  1. No Paint or Fillers: We restore the metal from behind the panel using professional tools. You’ll never have to worry about sanding, body filler, paint that doesn’t match, or aftermarket parts.
  2. Faster Turnaround: Small dents can often be fixed in about an hour, while larger dents take 2-5 hours and hail damage 1-10 days, depending on severity and insurance approval. A body shop may keep your car for two weeks or more.
  3. Mobile Service: For smaller damage, we can come to your home or workplace for a fee. For larger or complex repairs, we’re conveniently located off Hwy 321N in Hudson, NC. (By appointment only - please call first.)
  4. No CarFax Reports: We never report repairs to CarFax or insurance unless you file a claim. This helps protect your vehicle’s resale value.
  5. Cost-Effective: PDR can be much more affordable. A small dent may cost as little as $179, while traditional repainting could cost $700 or more.
  6. Environmentally Friendly: PDR is a “green” repair process - no chemicals, paint, or waste.
  7. Preserves Vehicle Value: Repainting can reduce your car’s value by hundreds per panel. PDR keeps your factory finish intact, protecting your investment.

In short: For small to moderate damage, skip the body shop - and call Dent Aid at (828) 217-2348.

  • Non-automotive items (refrigerators, small appliances, garage doors, etc.)

Do You Offer a Warranty or Guarantee?

Yes - absolutely!

Should I Let Just Anyone Repair My Dent?

Definitely not!

Paintless Dent Repair requires skill, experience, and the right tools. Just like choosing a mechanic, you want someone qualified and experienced.

At Dent Aid, with over 20 years of experience, certified technicians, and a satisfaction guarantee, you can trust that your vehicle is in good hands.

Please don’t attempt to repair dents yourself or allow an untrained individual to work on your vehicle - improper techniques can cause irreversible damage.
